Non-Unidiversal letter
Laws not based on commandments
http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/news/editorial/12291171.htm

Regarding “Christ, not commandments, foundation of Christian Faith” (July 25), the Rev. E.H. Zimmermann correctly states that the Ten Commandments are not the basis of the Christian faith. He is incorrect, however, in stating that the commandments are the “basis for much subsequent legislation.”

I am not aware of current laws that prohibit using the name of God in vain; working, shopping or watching football on the Sabbath (sundown Friday to sundown Saturday); advertising (its purpose is to make us covet); adultery; or worshiping idols and images. Laws against stealing and killing are universal and not based strictly on the Ten Commandments.
Moreover, the U.S. Constitution does not anywhere use the word God and explicitly forbids the use of religious tests to hold office.

Finally, why aren’t people content to display the Ten Commandments in their homes and churches? Why do they insist that they be put on public buildings if they are not the basis for either the Christian religion or our laws?

Unidiversal Response:

This letter makes a lot of good points.  Perhaps we can consider removing Bible based graffiti from public buildings when public funds stop going toward funding and teaching non-provable evolutionary theories as facts.
