Letter about homosexuality, church doesn’t seem logical
Regarding the letter by Barbara Siener Palmer, “Anti-gay clergy don’t know God” (July 24): She stated, “when homosexuals act according to their nature, that is good in God’s eyes.” Could not the same be said about pedophiles, adulterers, polygamists and people who have sex with animals? If not, why not? What exactly would be the moral premise for indicating otherwise?
The same question could be expanded to include murderers, thieves, rapists, liars, extortionists and so on. Would not God also be pleased with them just acting according to their nature?
If murderers, etc., act against their nature, that is bad (according to Palmer’s logic). The exception to that rule (again according to Palmer), would be ministers who have the audacity to follow their nature by speaking the truth about sin. In Palmer’s convoluted logic, those ministers need to repent of their nature and get with the politically correct program.

Unidiversal Response:
No one should say that someone else doesn’t know God, especially when trying to convince others to not judge them. However, it is human nature to be harmful; which is what pedophiles and adulterers are doing. The few People who have sex with animals are not concerned about self destruction, disease, or God so this group is a mute point in this discussion.
Polygamists concern other issues all together. A very few cultic belief systems control and manipulate people into the polygamist lifestyle whereas others beliefs are open to people’s own choices. Even though polygamy was recommended against in the Bible; respectable men, including fathers of our faith collected multitudes of women to have children and sexual pleasures with. But at no time did the Bible ever make salvation dependant on any person’s elimination of polygamy.
Again, unlike definitive homosexuals, murderers, thieves, rapists, liars, extortionists are harmful. If ministers are telling the truth about homosexuality then they will tell “all” of the truth and stop leaving out the facts that any Bible verse used against homosexuality identify harmful and nonconsensual activities.

Letter about homosexuality, Argument illogical about God and gays
Usually I do not get upset with letters published in The Journal Gazette. Everyone has the right to express themselves. However, on July 24, a disturbing letter by Barbara Siener Palmer was published that said, “It bothers me when clergy do not understand God. God created homosexuals. When homosexuals act according to their nature, that is good in God’s eyes.”
I do not understand all things God does. Many of his ways are mystifying. But I firmly believe we need to stop blaming the things we do or the way we live on God. I believe the creation story is the word of God and nowhere in it can I find that he created homosexuals. He did give us brains and the ability to make choices. In fact, making choices resulted in Adam and Eve getting kicked out of the garden.
If we allow that God created people who exhibit deviant behavior, we open a Pandora’s box. From here it is a small step to say, “God created thieves and when they act according to their nature, that is good in God’s eyes.” The list could go on and on. In the extreme we could say God created wife-beaters, racists, murderers, rapists, pedophiles, Hitlers, Mansons and many others, and when they act according to their nature, that is good in God’s eyes.
We have the ability to choose. I will choose the lifestyle I believe is set forth in the Scriptures. I will trust my Lord to help me over the rough places and plead my case when I stand before God on Judgment Day.

Unidiversal Response:
“Blaming”? What a distorted way of thinking. The creation story says that God created people and unless someone is dehumanizing people who are homosexual then God created people who are homosexuals too. This isn’t much different than the evolutionary ideas that some people are lesser species, namely animals, than others. It doesn’t appear that the quotation is “blaming” God but rather praising God for the writers existence.
And again I say, unlike definitive homosexuals; wife beaters, racists, murderers, thieves, rapists, pedophiles, liars, extortionists, Hitlers, Mansons, and such are harmful. If ministers are telling the truth about homosexuality then they will tell “all” of the truth and stop leaving out the facts that any Bible verse used against homosexuality identify harmful and/or nonconsensual activities.
If homosexuals and non-homosexuals alike would face the truth about homosexuality then the controversy wouldn’t be so deviant. The truth is that definitive homosexuality and heterosexuality isn’t really about sex, it is about building a responsible life that most likely could not be built any other way.
