Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sins, it shall die.
Soul dies
Job 4:17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
Some people have thought that we can have control of our own mortality, but mortals can not be more than God.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust (body) return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
At death breath/spirit returns to God
Job 27:3 All the while my breath is in me and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;
Spirit means breath is in my nose
Immortality
1 Timothy 6:15-16 Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.
UV: In his times he will show who is the blessed and only ruler over kings and lords; God, who is the only one who has immortality, existing in the light of all pure truth and knowledge which no one can approach; whom no one has seen, nor can see: God, to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.
1 Corinthians 15:51-57 (mainly 53 & 54)
Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory? The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law. But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
We do not have immortality, it is a gift
Revelation 16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.
People and animals have/are souls
Job 17:13 If I wait, the grave [is] mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.
Dead abide in grave
When Jesus Died
Matthew 27
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
Acts 2:29 & 34
Men [and] brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. . . . For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he said himself, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand,
After Jesus Resurrection, David and all dead are not in heaven

Sleep until resurrection
Fast forward through time
Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither do they have any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. . . . Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work, device, knowledge or wisdom in the grave; where you are going.
1 Corinthians 15:20-23 But now is Christ risen from the dead, [and] become the first fruits of them that slept. For since by man [came] death, by man [came] also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
firstfruits – leading trend and product of workmanship
(repeat) 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
John 11:11-14 . . . after that Jesus said to them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleeps, he will be ok. However, Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking a rest in sleep. Then Jesus said to them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
The silence of Lazarus about death shows unawareness in death

John 5:28-29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
Reincarnation
Hebrews 9:12-22 (main verse is 17) But Christ being a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this construction; or by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies to the purifying of the flesh: How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit of God offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new covenant, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
For where a covenant will is, there is also the necessity for the death of the testator (property owner of whom the will is for). For a covenant will is in force after owners are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the owner lives. Whereas the first covenant was dedicated without blood. For when Moses spoke every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Reincarnation would not allow a covenant to be in force, especially the covenant Jesus died for. It would break all laws and commandments and make them ineffective.
